There are many different types of military tents to choose from, each with a specific purpose in the right situation. It all has to do with choosing the one that suits your needs. This is probably the most important decision you will make while camping.

1) Personal recommendation

This may sound obvious, but the best place to start is to find friends, family, or co-workers who are camping. Ask what type of tent they have and if they would recommend one. 

2) Don't underestimate the size of the tent needed

In general, find a larger tent than you need. If you are four, consider bringing a 6 person tent. Space quickly went premium considering anyone walking around (crawling) was bothering each other!

3) Don't go to a tent that looks amazing in the ad

Beware of nifty tricks and features that may not work. A simple dome tent with good ventilation can often be the best choice.

4) Is the tent easy to stretch?

Some tents are easier to set up than others. If you think setting up a tent is too scary, ask someone to show you how to do it before you buy. Or, you can go for a tent that is known to be easy to set up. The store you bought it from should be able to tell you about this.
